Would you like to see RetroShooter 2050 on iPhone?

retroshooter2050_pic01Ian Dunlop from OEFun contacted us for advice on whether he should bring a game in development originally for Wii, to the iPhone. The game, called RetroShooter 2050, is an on-rails shooter which takes you on a surreal trip through decades in our history. Personally, I want it on iPhone right now! Back in August I mentioned in a post titled Dreamcast to iPhone games wish list, that my number one game from that console would be Rez… and with a similar visual style, game mechanic and music synced to the action, RetroShooter 2050 could fill that void! Read on for video of the game in action and please leave your thoughts in the comments section…

I’m not a huge fan of this type of game, but any cool original game is ok a by me, I see no reason not to bring it over. If it’s good and it’s priced right, the dev can profit, and gamers will eat it up.

Looks good to me but I would wait till you hear from Pintos before giving Ian the thumbs up.

Umm…. me want? Seriously… anything with that shiny, Tron/Rez/Geometry Wars kind of aesthetic always grabs my attention… can’t wait to see if this will come out!

A resounding yes! I’m a big fan of 3D on rails shooters such as starfox and rez and think this would be a great addition to the store.

The app store is currently lacking in premium content and on rails 3D shooters. There’s an avalanche of 2D r-type style content some good some bad but no polished 3D 1st/3rd person shooters. (with the exeption of Venger I can’t think of any).

From the looks of the video this game ticks both boxes, presentation and gameplay/style.

As long as it’s priced correctly (£3.49 minimum. Don’t cheapen your work) then I think it’s a surefire success.

    I for one would purchase.

Cheers and thanks to the dev for participating in our community and asking for our opinions and constructive critisism. Many a dev could learn from this – case in point the abundance of shovelware devs polluting the store for a quick buck !

    Just my 2 cents

Hmmm… I have mixed feelings about this. I mean the visuals looks pretty good, and a rail shooter takes away the frustration of having to move and shoot on the iPhone, but I’m not sure how well the odd theme will appeal to a lot of people. I mean, a straight up Tron-style shooter is one thing, but adding in historical objects/people seems like an odd fit to me. Although it certainly looks cool!

One thing to consider is the replay value of a rail shooter… there isn’t really much. Unless you provide alternate paths in levels that unlock different sections of gameplay, or come up with something else that encourages replay, a once-through game generally can’t be sold for a very high price without iTunes store reviewers complaining for more.

    Just a couple thoughts. :)
