Another stylized racing game comes to the iPhone.Wipeout wannabe has got my attention. ‘Synth Racing’ from Race to the moon is a Unity powered, 3D racer with a similar art style to Wipeout. The title is a little misleading in that you are not exactly racing other ships, but instead taking part in speed courses, where you get faster and faster. The trick is to manoeuvre your vehicle so not to hit any objects which cause you to slow down. Speed boosts poweups can be picked up along the route to give you a short burst of extra speed. The game reminds me of the ‘zone’ mode in Wipeout, where your ship gets faster and faster, and you must see how far you can go before exploding. This is similar to that but instead it’s to see how long you can race before the time runs out. Each course is 45 seconds by default but you can top it up with the speed boost powerups. There are three courses to choose from, as well as three vehicles. While this might sound a little short in terms of gameplay, the game is only $0.99. However, the AppStore page states that the developers are planning on expanding the game to a full league racer. For now though, if you like adrenaline style futuristic racers, then Synth Racer should give you a good boost for your buck.
