The release of Disney’s movie TRON: Legacy is so close I can almost feel the gorgeous, shiny, Light Cycles whizzing by…
I was fortunate enough to visit Disney Interactive Studios today and got a first look at the new TRON update coming November 16th, and even a super secret first look at the upcoming TRON: Legacy app coming to the App store in December.
The TRON app currently features “Tanks,” a free, all-new version of the classic TRON Arcade game in which the player navigates a tank to the end of each maze by destroying power grids, turrets, and other enemies. Starting November 16th, users will be able to download a pretty impressive update to their already free game: Light Cycles. FINALLY! Everyone wants light cycles nowadays. Another remastered arcade game, Light Cycles is a top down game in which the user must “derezz” enemies by blocking or trapping them with the Light Ribbons that appear behind the cycles.
Players can either swipe or tap to navigate their cycles in order to collect power-ups that give speed boosts, longer Light Ribbons, and even “Ghost” mode. Throughout 8 different arenas, which change in size and shape, there are 3-6 stages that increase in difficulty as the player progresses. Don’t worry, your efforts are not in vain. Completing all of these levels rewards the victor with the streaming of a brand new Daft Punk song, “Derezzed,” which will be in the upcoming movie, TRON: Legacy. I have heard the song and I think Daft Punk did an amazing job at capturing TRON while still sticking to their “style.”
Also new to the TRON App is multiplayer! All the player has to do is create a Disney ID (similar to a gamertag), and then they are set to compete in online multiplayer via Wifi. Bluetooth capability is on its way as well. Light Cylces can be played with 2, 4, or 6 players online in an epic Light Ribbon battle. TRON is compatible with iOS 3.0 and is available on iPhone, iPod, and iPad.
I can’t say too much about TRON: Legacy or I might get assassinated by Disney ninjas, but let’s just say it looks gorgeous. Players are going to get a really fun and excellent looking game for a mind-boggling $0.99! TRON: Legacy hits the App store this December sometime around the release of the movie. Get the game, and see the movie. They are both going to be worth the wait.
