TouchGEN iPad magazine out now

Roll up, roll up, get your free TouchGen iPad magazine here!…

Listen up iPad users. We’ve created an iPad magazine featuring a selection of our editor’s choice reviews from 2008-2010…

This special edition is a pilot issue for a full magazine that we have in the pipeline coming very soon. Issue 1 will feature all the things you’d expect from a news-stand gaming magazine, such as news, reviews, features, commentaries and the like, but in an interactive format designed to make the most of your iPad. The best bit for you is that it will be completely FREE.

So, tell us what you think of this special edition of TouchGen Magazine, and let us know what you would like to see in the first full issue. After all, it’s your magazine!

Looks good so far, except that touching the video thumbnail for Bit.Trip Beat causes the app to exit.(16gb wifi ipad 1)

Sorry, there seems to be a problem when running on 1st Gen iPads. This being a pilot it’s good to iron out the wrinkles.

Is there any plans for a smaller version to be put on Ipod Touch and Iphone. Also, is the app offline or does it need an internet connection

  • Nigel Wood

the app is fully offline for reading the articles. only appstore links require an Internet connection. future issues may include some dynamic content that will require a connection (such as polls, and comments) but the majority of it will be offline giving it a ‘take anywhere and read’ magazine feel.

the iPhone and iPod are too small to be effective for magazine style apps. so for now this is iPad only.

UPDATE: If you update your iPad 1 to the latest software the magazine runs fine :)

I like the mag. The layout/graphic design is pretty good, apart from a few low res images (like the cover image). The reviews are good as usual, but of course I have almost all these games!

I would like to see this taken forward, with more recent reviews (maybe the highlights of the month), news, commentary etc. Maybe stuff like the touchdown posts would work well. I also think you could include a podcast, as that would be something different in this format.

Oh and as many interviews with devs as you can get!

  • NSCXP2005

    This is excellent!!!

Would it be possible to make this universal for iPhone 4 and IPT4G.

    All the best

    awesome awesome awesome :D
I second “nizzy”‘s comment about dev interview, the story behind the making of the game is sometimes really interesting.

Love it! Great magazine. Like to see more from you guys. Thanks

  • nizy

Another thing I noticed, if you come out of the app and return it doesn’t remember where you were, simply taking you to the front cover.

  • Abe

There is already a touchgen app for the iPhone/ iPod and that seems to also be about reviewing iOS games.

    Just putting it out there.

  • Nigel Wood

@nizy: multitasking is coming in an update.

@abe: yes we do have the Touchgen app for iPhone. But it’s a simple an RSS reader.
