Phosphor Games Studio today announced The Dark Meadow, a action adventure game for iOS devices scheduled to launch next month.
The game has been created using Unreal Engine 3 to make what the developers claim is ‘a stunning first-person, action/adventure game where players fight to escape a nightmare world filled with fantastical creatures bent on destroying them.’
“From the start, our vision for The Dark Meadow was to create a top-tier console gaming experience that works on iOS devices from 3GS to iPad 2,” said Chip Sineni, Director of Phosphor Games Studios. “From the real-time cinematics and in-depth storyline, to the gesture-based ranged and melee combat systems, our goal is to integrate the best of hardcore console gaming with the intuitive ease of the casual mobile world.”
“Phosphor Games Studio has been a development partner of ours for years, and we’re happy to see them create a unique experience for iOS utilizing their talents and skills with Unreal Engine 3,” said Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games. “It’s exciting to see more triple-A quality games coming to mobile devices and we can’t wait to play The Dark Meadow.”
The game seems to be set in the survival horror genre. With you waking in a hospital, uncertain of how you arrived there or why. An old man warns of a beautiful witch whose minions roam the halls seeking to kill the living. It is only when the witch is destroyed that you will be released from this unrelenting torment. Nice!
As you explore the 3D world, both a crossbow and a sword will be available to you to fight off enemies, offering up both ranged and melee combat options. Phosphor ensure us that the gesture-based “pull back and fire” mechanic for the crossbow, as well as slashing combat for the sword, will be instantly recognizable to iOS players. Movement doesn’t seem to be free though, and will instead utilise a node-based system, so expect controls to be similar to Infinity Blade.
Role-playing game mechanics have been added to, including a wide variety of items are hidden throughout the world – from scraps of paper that reveal story elements, to money which can be used to purchase improved equipment and weapons.
The Dark Meadow is hitting the App Store next month. An exact date and price will be announced shortly.
