The AppStore is Doom’ed

id released Doom Resurrection today and we’ve just got hands on with it. Priced at the higher end of the AppStore at $9.99, the game utilises assets from Doom 3 on consoles and PC. So how does it play? Well you’ll have to wait for our review to find out all the details, but in short It’s pretty sweet! As you know it plays on rails, just like the Resident Evil remakes on Wii. You may think it takes the fun out of it… well, yes and no! You see it’s designed to be more of a ghost train style thrill ride, leaving you more time to simply sit back and enjoy blowing the living hell out evil creatures from… well… hell itself! The graphics look fantastic, even when close to a door or wall, with very crisp textures. The enemies animate well and the framerate is great (tested on a 3GS). The music and sound is what you’d expect, creepy! Stay tuned for our review, in the meantime check out these screenshots from the tutorial level.

Why have you tested it on a 3GS? Is it 3GS-only title?

Lol, nice one Matt. Well I bought this and I’m glad to say that it is pretty awesome. The graphics are BEAUTIFUL, the sound is great, the gameplay is really good, would probably like to control it myself but it really is a very good on-rails shooter. For those on the fence about this game, get off of it and click the buy button.

To me Doom is a FPS, I can’t see myself enjoying it on rails. Never liked the Umbrella Chronicles Resident Evil for the Wii for the same reason. You are supposed to walk around the corner yourself just to be swarmed by Imps. Sad day mr Carmack, sad day.
