Ted Baker Leather Style Pouch Men´s review

Sleek elegance with a personal flair could easily be a commercial blurb for Ted Baker designed pouch. But those words are mine, and the impression is honest and immediate. As leather pouches go this is one that stands out designed with a great eye for lines, selection of material and cool lining. There is one issue that strikes me as sloppy though, and I will tell you all about it later on in this review.

Ted Baker is a renowned designer hailing from Glascow, and most known for his shirt designs. iPhone cases have been on the plate from this growing brand since the 3G generation. With the iPhone 4 a collection of iPhone cases, and pouches has been introduced. The collection is divided into men’s and women’s.

The Leather Style Pouch is a pull strap pouch made from faux leather, with patterned lining. There are two different versions: black with bulldog lining, and brown with spacemen lining. As the lining isn’t visible other than when the pouch is empty it isn’t vital to the choice of color. It is more a cool detail to the owner, and less of a statement of personality outwards. The brand is clearly presented with printed leathers indented in the front leather “Ted Baker London”. The metal plate for the pull strap also bears the name of the designer.

The leather is really thin, and has both a sheen to it as well as an organic pummelled style. This gives the leather life, and with age it will continue to add to the style of it. Made from a single piece of leather the case is strong, and won’t fall apart for quite a lot of years. The seams are strong, and there are no frayed ends. I really like that the pouch is square, and even has some openings on the bottom sides. These are more for show than anything else. Of course it makes the ringer slightly less muffled, but it is still not easy to hear it compared to having proper cut-outs for the speakers.

The pull strap function is excellent, and one pull extracts half of the phone. The pull is easy, and it is easy to reset due to having a proper built in mechanism. An opening on the back of the case serves as the pull strap door. There is one issue with the case though, and it is the one that I hint about in the first paragraph. The pull strap is made from a thin fabric, and it seems strong enough to last. A metal plate is screwed onto the strap, and this is the issue. The fabric is too thin, and the metal plate glides off it. I have had to reattach the metal plate using a tiny screwdriver several times. Even folding the pull strap three times is too thin to get it to work properly. Of course you can pull directly on the pull strap instead of using the metal plate. I found this to be an issue that the QA department should have spotted immediately.

For protection the pouch is great offering complete coverage from minor impacts, and all scratches. As the leather is rather thin I can not really say that I think the iPhone will be protected from harder falls. For everyday use it is definitely enough.

The Ted Baker Leather Style Pouch is a well designed polished product. It is suitable for most users no matter if you are a student, or a white collar businessman. It is hard to pull off both cool and fresh, and sophisticated and elegant in the same product. This is one of those products that manage that balance beautifully. The poor execution of the pull strap plate draws the final rating down. I still give this pouch a warm recommendation.
