SwitchEasy TRIG iPad sleeve review

The TRIG sleeve from SwitchEasy is perhaps the cosiest way to store your iPad/iPad 2. The lining is warm fleece like material that would make a nice blanket. Fuzzy strands make sure that the iPad always emerges with a fresh screen, all wiped from smudge. The outer layer of the TRIG also gives me winter season associations. The visual appearance is not far from that of a thick winter jacket with thick eiderdown padding. Overall this is a nice sleeve made for maximum protection, and with an added stand functionality.

img_4534For protection TRIG is really well thought out with thick padding, durable materials and soft lining. For mild to moderate impacts the sleeve protects really well. I am not as confident when it comes to major impacts, as there is no hard materials to take up the force. The padding can only do so much if the iPad was dropped out of a window a couple of floors up. For scratch protection the case has the entire iPad covered. The outer leather like material is easy to wipe clean, and seems quite durable. All seams are well made, and buttons sit sturdy.

The TRIG is really roomy, and it works well with the slightly bigger original iPad as well. For the iPad 2 it works really well naked, but also with a thin back cover or the Apple Smart Cover. Extracting the iPad is easy as well. Just open the two buttons keeping the TRIG shut, and grab it by the front and back top. As it is roomy, and the lining is fuzzy it glides out with ease even with a back cover.

02_cThe added functionality of the TRIG is the addition of some extra flaps found at the bottom. These are buttoned closed when used as a sleeve, but when unbuttoned they turn into a stand. By using the closure buttons, and the ones for the extra flap the TRIG turns into a handy stand. This stand lets the iPad stand in either landscape or portrait mode in two different angles that are set using plastic pieces. I find this to be an excellent addition to a sleeve, as it lets me use it actively when the iPad isn’t in it. Too often I have to search for sleeves and pouches when not in use, since they are only used to transport the iPad securely. The trade-off in the TRIG is that it becomes quite large. Compared to the iPad it is about three centimetres longer. I take that trade-off any day for the added functionality.

dThe TRIG looks really cool, and sticks out of the ordinary template for sleeves. Instead of going for form fitting, slim and less is more it goes for bold, bulky and cuddly. The SwitchEasy branding is good with the logotype, and word TRIG on the front. A small label on the lower left hand side, as well as both logo and name visible when using the stand functionality is great. I am all for showcasing your brand, and SwitchEasy is getting better and better at it. As usual you get some extras, and with the TRIG you get an anti static screen film.

The TRIG is a fun sleeve with a neat stand functionality. It is quite bulky, but makes up for it by allowing back cover, or Smart Cover to be used with the iPad 2. I find it to be a great alternative in the sleeve category well worth considering.
