SwitchEasy Colors iPhone 4 case review

I am not a big fan of pure silicone cases, because either they attract a lot of dirt or are too loosely fitted. SwitchEasy has managed to sway my opinion completely with the brilliant execution of their Colors design. Just like all other pure silicone cases it is made into one piece. The home button is covered by a round, and quite hard little plastic button. At first this jelly bean button annoyed me quite a lot. As I got used to it I have only positive things to say.

03_aColors is a thin, but still rigid silicone case. It hugs the phone tightly, and has little to no tendency to feel loose along the sides. The attention to detail is excellent, and this shows in small things such as the inside of the camera cut-out being painted black to avoid disturbing the flash. While inside the case you still have full functionality. The volume buttons, and silent switch are covered with a thin layer of silicone that allow easy usage. There are cut-outs for the camera, headphone socket, charge socket and mute switch. The lower part of the front is covered with silicone up to the screen. The cool plastic button covering the home button sticks out about two millimetres, and is rounded.

02_bFor protection the Colors is excellent providing a good base protection against impact, and scratch damage. The entire back, sides, and large portions of the front are covered by the thin silicone. Worth noting is that this is not a case providing hard impact protection, but rather just low to mid forces. A drop from waist to a floor is survivable, but not a tumble down some stairs. Like with all SwitchEasy products you get a lot of extras that help protect the phone. Screen guard films, headphone jack protectors and power socket protector. Using all of these extras enhance protection significantly, and even makes the phone usable in a light drizzle.

05_aThe cool home button is responsive, but not oversensitive. It takes some getting used to as it is harder than the home button found beneath. I have not had any problems with the home button being pressed accidentally while in a pocket or a bag. When handling the phone it is easy to have my thumb on the button, and keep it as a pivot centre.

Colors has an excellent grip that works really well when playing games. The rubberized silicone feels fresh even after hours of gaming, or surfing. Another interesting thing is that it smells nice. It has a soft scent reminding me of erasers I used to collect as a child.

With some wicked color combinations the Colors is a superb silicone case offering a basic level of impact protection and superb scratch protection, as well as excellent grip. It is a fun, pleasant case that I can fully recommend to anyone. The fact that it costs less than $15 means that you get really good value for your hard earned money.
