Subbuteo to get extra time on iPhone and iPad?

Is the classic table-top sports game ‘Subbuteo’ making its way to iPhone and iPad?

At the re-launch of the 65 year-old game at the London Toy Fair in London yesterday – which sees players control small plastic figurines by flicking them – Peter Rooke, of Paul Lamond Games has said that as well as updating the classic table-top experience, they are also looking into launching Subbuteo for tablet computers and smartphone devices.

I remember friends of mine in the 80′s taking it pretty darn seriously, to the point of building highly detailed stadiums around the edges of the tables for a more authentic footie experience. What better way is there to drag the game kicking and screeming into the 21st century, than bringing it out onto the AppStore?

There are of course a few unofficial Subbuteo games already available, but without the full roster of premier league teams and players, they can’t compete. Let’s hope the official game will come loaded with content and customisation.
