GDC: Street Fighter IV - Contest Closed thumbnail

Contest is over! It’s here, and it’s awesome! I just got back from a crazy Capcom party, where I got to interview Tekuza-san (lead producer) and play the game myself. I was smashing on noobs (who may or may not have been drunk) with ease, and am insanely impressed with the accurate controls and smoothness of the animation.

Due to the terrible internet here at the hotel, I haven’t been able to upload the interview, or the pictures of the prizes, but both are quite cool! Expect those sometime tomorrow.

How to enter
Simply post a comment stating your favorite Street Fighter character (any version) and why they are so beloved to you.

What you win
One lucky winner will win a $10 app store card (assumingly to buy SF4) and a rockin SF4 iPhone case (picture will be posted in the morning when I get good internet). Second place will win the $10 card.

I will choose a winner when I get back home from GDC.

    Akuma the hair, the outfit, and that dark red haduken. Plus you have to love that kanji on the back of his gi. And you can’t forget that sick special where the whole screen goes black.

    I like Dhalsim because he has kickass moves & I like Chun-Li because she is he bomb in every way possible.

    Its got to be Chun-Li. Not only does she have killer legs (esp. when they’re spinning upside-down into your face!) but Jackie Chan even dressed up as her in the City Hunter movie. How cool/scary is that! Chun-Li is scary–wait, Jackie Chan in drag as Chun-Li is scary. The real one is awesome!

    Ken, cos no matter how much I play, i’m still a noob, and he’s easy to pick, has a good range of moves and some gnarly bleached blonde hair!

    Damn, this is a tough call. I guess I will go with Sagat, for a few reasons. First, he’s basically a huge, pissed off, Thai version of Ryu and Ken, which already makes him bad ass. Second, when SF II Championship Edition came out way back when, playing as bosses was still fresh and exciting, and he was the easiest one to get acquainted with since he shared most of the special moves that Ryu and Ken used. Third, his heritage, along with his elbow and knee strikes signal that he practices Muay Thai, which, anyone who has seen a Tony Jaa film knows is probably the most badass and destructive hand-to-hand fighting style in the effing universe (Blanka’s Capoeia ranks second in the game). Fourth, he has scars and an eyepatch. C’mon, he couldn’t be any more badass if he had two peg legs and three hook hands! Last, he had the balls to call himself “Sagat” when it’s so easy to make fun of that name–(Fagat, Bob Sagat, etc.) but of course nobody ever EVER shit talks Sagat, except for maybe Ryu.

    Honda ftw. I played this game ages ago as 7 y/o kid on coin machines in Spain and this was my favorite character back then. It had cool moves and animations and Honda was one of our cars by that time…

    It is definitely Ryu. He was the favorite when I was young. This comes from the attutide of him. The dedication to training was really exemplary for me, and is today either.

    Blanka is my favorite by far. When I was a kid he was the easiest to control. My favorite move was to rush the opponent into a corner and light him up with electric shock therapy…pressing one button as fast as I could.

    Chun-Li! I used to kick some serious butt with her back in the 80-90’s when Street Fighter 2 came out. I used to sick a lot of quarters in at the circle-K against my friends. No wonder we never had money!

    Ryu was the first character I learned to play with on the original SFII and is still one of my favorites! :)

    I have always had a bit of a crush for Chun-Li, and I could never beat a woman especially not her. And I should win the case because Matt loves to pay $70 in shipping to Sweden:)

    1. I’ve been using him in almost all of the Street Fighter 3 remakes as my main man and hopefully in the game.

    2. He looks completely different in Street Fighter the movie, which is something you gotta love, classic capcom inconsistency ;)

    Easily Dhalsim, because he is so unique in his fighting style, has awesome range, and can throw opponents’ strategies off for six. I also like the dark (Kali worshipping) skull motif that goes along with him.

    On top of all that, human opponents will often underestimate him and be lulled into a false sense of security.

    i love many street fighter characters… because they are all so
    AWESOME… and so bad at the same time.

    M. Bison - because he has shoulder pads… just like the ones
    my moms suits had in the late 80’s early 90’s.

    Vega - because he loves wolverine… so he wares a glove
    with claws, because he loves jim carrey… because he wares
    a mask, and because he loves avatar… because he has a
    long ponytail so he can “connect” with wolverine.

    Sagat - because i love his brother bob… that guy is funny.
    and he has an eye patch… like a pirate… ARRRRRRRRR!!!

    Dhalsim - because up until SF4, i thought he was saying
    “Yo Got Fire”… not “Yoga Fire”… which is just as stupid.

    Evil Ryu - because he’s EVILLLLLLL!!! just like in spiderman 3
    when peter parker wears black cloths… instant EVILLLLLLL!!!

    Guile - as much as he loves his hair, proving that the military
    really believes in the line “dont ask, dont tell”

    Chun-Li - because if i was lost on a desert island with her,
    after we hooked up… because she “love me long time”, then
    in her sleep, i would kill her and deep fry her massive thighs
    like chicken drumsticks, and feast on them for the next 2
    days before the find me, and then put me in a mental house
    for not even bothering to wait a week before going all lord
    of the flys.

    Zangief - because street fighter loves the gay community so
    much, that not only are most of male characters overtly
    homosexual, the have a big hairy one, so he can be the “bear”,
    and “hug” all the other twinks… i know to much about
    homosexual subculture.

    Blanka - because you couldnt keep the hulk from mating with
    carrot top… you have blanka.

    Rufus - because you cant really test boob physics, until you fight
    one the is 6 foot tall, and has appendages.

    And finally…

    Hakan - the newest character added to the Super Street Fighter 4
    roster. he is from greese… and he loves to get oiled up… before,
    after, and during every match. watch this video for proof…

    RYU

    RYU stands for Ravens Yodeling Unicorns. All of which he can summon or use as secret moves… not even Ken can defend these off. KEN can only summon Kittens Eels and Newts.

    Just imagine if someone you were about to fight started Yodeling while Unicorns and Ravens headed toward you… SCARY!
