Square’s Crystal Defenders out now!

ff1Crystal Defenders is a tower defense style game set in the Final Fantasy universe, with characters such as Mages and soldiers based mainly from FF Tactics A2. The game consists of 300 stages across three difficulty levels. All controls are obviously touch based, and the graphics seem on par with the SNES/Gameboy and DS tactics look and feel. It is available now for $7.99, plus a lite version is available for free

First, I don’t think I like half the screen taken up by a button.

BUT! A new idea has come to mind…TWO TOUCH SCREENS like the DS! Is that possible?? Split the iPhone screen into two playing screens like the DS, both with multitouch. Let’s say the bottom half is a map you can touch to zoom to a spot on a RTS game like Age of Empires while the top half is where it actually zooms for gameplay which can also be affected by tilt!!!! It just might work! If it did…where would that put the DS?

They basically ported the japanese cellphone game. Thus the small square sceen and traditional cellphone virtual control nub. Lazy!

I had high hopes for this game, but it tuned out to be very bad…

How can you say this was very bad?
Easily one of the best games out for iPhone/iTouch.

I disagree with you 23qwerty, Crystal Defenders is not that good. If your looking for a tower defense game I would put FieldRunners, The Creeps, and 7 Cities above this one.

Crystal defenders has poor controls, a poor menu, and a teeny play screen. I mean why even make an iPhone game if your going to use half the screen for controls?

They should re-make the graphics for landscape mode, and re-design the controls so you play with touch alone. There really is no need for a d-pad in a tower defense game.

Hmmm, for anyone who isn’t paying attention, there has been an update which allows you to choose between the control nub or full landscape mode with touch. The landscape mode looks and plays awesome, they also touched up the controls so they are tighter and work better. Not really a single complaint I can make about it now other then the fact its effing hard.
