Chillingo release Spider Jack, and there’s certainly more than just a whiff of Cut the Rope about it…
In Spider Jack (who’s a spider of course!) you must help him swing through 75 stages of puzzles to reach his dinner. Tapping hook points will cast Jack’s web through obstacle courses allowing you to avoid dangers. To keep him climbing, you must cut the previous webs so he can cast new lines and continue onwards.
As you can see from the trailer below it has no shame in borrowing heavily in both gameplay elements and visuals of Cut the Rope. Having said that, it is distributed by Chillingo’s budget gaming arm ‘Click Gamer’, the same that brought us Cut the Rope, so I suppose it is keeping it in the family at least.
A representative at Chillingo told me that, while it is inspired by Cut the Rope, it adds new physics-based twists (such as climbing the rope in stead of always cutting it).
