Speck Fitted for iPhone 4 review

The Fitted is definitely a flagship in the armada of cases from Speck. I have tried it both for the iPhone 3GS and the iPad. For the iPad I gave the Fitted a whopping five star rating. So how well does it stack up for the iPhone 4?

The Fitted is a hard shell case made from two pieces. It is easy to insert the iPhone into the case. Just place the phone in the back panel, and press the frame onto it. It is much harder to extract it without becoming a frustrating monster. That is how well it holds together, and I had to watch the instruction video at Speckproducts.com to get it off. Sure I could have used my rage to twist it off, but I rather go the peaceful way.

For protection the Fitted is great covering the back, sides and front edges. The case feels quite bulky, because of the buttons being recessed instead of covered by the case. If dropped the case holds together quite well for one or two drops. After a couple of hits the case has some issues holding the pieces together. Compared to silicone cases, and for example the OtterBox Commuter the Fitted is weak in the long run.

spk-artsproject_family002-2_3Just like the earlier models of the Fitted the fabric fuzzes on the back of the case. Furthermore the square back isn’t as appealing as the 3GS was, as the fabric looked better with a curving line. This isn’t the fault of the case, but it suffers from the flat design of the iPhone. I have some issues with the intersection where the two pieces of the case meet. There is a noticeable line, that can be slightly uncomfortable at times.

The Fitted for the iPhone 4 is not as good as the brilliant iPad version. It is still a quality case that protects the iPhone well, and look great if you find a cool pattern or image that suits you.
