The Sarach case family from Sena has one of the most slender, and beautiful leather design aesthetics. My personal favourite leather case for the iPhone 3G/3GS is the Sarach Flip, and now I have a pouch spin-off of that classic design. The combination of excellent Napa full grain leather, and saddle stitches really tickle my senses. The soft and frail combined with the tough and rough is always an interesting design decision. When perfectly executed this intersection gets even more vibrant.
The Sarach Ultraslim is an extremely thin pouch for the iPhone 4. It hugs the phone snugly, and there is no risk of it falling out when held upside down. Made from a single piece of leather the design is quite durable. The top of the case is stitched with a small thread, and the sides with the large saddle stitches. These stitches make the front of the pouch resemble a baseball. It also helps to tell the front from the back when inside a pocket.
This is a soft case that folds if placed empty. I don’t think this will ever hurt the leather, but it makes the opening fold inward making it somewhat fiddly to insert the phone. To extract the phone you have three different methods of choice: grabbing the top middle of the phone front, and back, grabbing the top sides, and pushing in the middle of the bottom. I think the smoothest way to get it out is to simply push on the bottom between the speaker cut-outs. This is the only way to easily remove it using only one hand.
When inside the case you have visible access to the headphone socket, silent button, mute switch and speakers. The volume controls are easy to operate even without seeing them. Having large round cut-outs for the speakers at the bottom means that you can hear the ringer, or music if you want to play loud. The only aspects you can’t access in the pouch are the screen, and charging socket.
For protection the Sarach Ultraslim makes quite a lot of sacrifices to keep slim. It is great for scratch protection, as it protects almost the entire phone. For impact protection it is less ideal using the thin slim leather. It is somewhat better than having a naked phone, but any drop could be the last for the heavy phone.
The Sarach Ultraslim is one of the prettiest, and thinnest pouches out there. It doesn’t add bulk, or any considerable weight. The micro velvet lining makes sure that there are no smudges on the screen, and the phone always emerges fresh. For impact protection it is less ideal, and the softness can make it bothersome to insert the phone. For anyone into pouches for their iPhone 4 it comes highly recommended, as one of the coolest products around.
