Sena Sarach Flip iPhone 4/4S review

The Sarach Flip was my personal favourite leather case for the iPhone 3G/3GS. My take on the case was even featured in an issue of iPhone Life Magazine. Now a couple of years later I got the chance to give the iPhone 4/4S version of the Sarach Flip a go. The Sena craftsmanship is stellar, as always but some how the design doesn’t work as well with the square hardware. It is still a great case, and by far one of the best leather cases with a front flap out there.

The Sarach Flip is made from two large pieces of leather bound together along the backsides with a thick thread. It gives the case the special look of a saddle. All other seams on the case are made with a thinner thread, and there are no lose threads. There are cut-outs for all the functions of the phone, and I have had no issues with the camera or operating any buttons. The front flap even has a cut-out allowing you to use headphones without hassle. Worth noting is that headphones with straight connectors are a bit awkward to use since the cut-out is a bit too small. For angled connectors this is no problem at all.
The front flap also features a credit card slot, and it can be used for a card or two. I find it a bit hard to extract with ease, and this is not a case that can replace a wallet. For an emergency credit card, or drivers license when out partying it suffices though. The main reason to have the front flap is the excellent protection it provides. That, and the fact that it never gets old flicking the flap shut. Two magnets hold the case shut properly, but not too hard to make it a hassle to open.

The main issue I have with the case that stops it from reaching the highest ratings is the fact that the leather intrudes on the screen. It is extremely challenging typing when I can’t reach the letters at the sides in portrait mode. I have had to switch to landscape mode every time when typing a message. This is of course also an issue when playing games, and most games place buttons in the corners where they are hard to reach using the case. I don’t remember that this was such an issue for the 3GS version of the case.

The Sarach Flip is one of the best looking cases for the iPhone 4/4S, and it protects it well. The leather along the sides of the screen is a tad intrusive. Other than that this is a well-made case that comes highly recommended if you need a case that protects well at work, and looks really stylish at the same time.
