SEGA release Space Harrier II and Ecco the Dolphin

Out of the blue SEGA have released two Megadrive (Genesis) classics onto the AppStore today.

The first is Space Harrier II, a sequel to the on-rails original that saw you take to the skies in a surreal world, as you shoot down a variety of beasties. The second is much of the same but with slightly better graphics and sound.

Lastly is Ecco the Dolphin. Released in 1992 this side scrolling adventure game was hard as hell, requiring you to navigate your dolphin through a perilous underwater world as you searched for your missing pod. The most fun in the game was simply swimming around and performing pointless somersaults.

Both games make use of SEGA’s emulation of the original 16bit hardware and retail at a wallet friendly $0.99 and less so $2.99. Sonic 1 and Goldenaxe had mixed results, but Sonic 2 was a definite improvement. We’ll have impressions of both games on our podcast this week.

UPDATE: Shining Force, Altered Beast and Sonic Spinball are on their way in the coming weeks too!
