Vivid games have released Samurai Puzzle Battle, a mix of match 3 puzzle and battle strategy. The iPhone version is enhanced from the original award winning mobile edition and includes:

• Play in an alternative version of medieval Japan torn by war… Steam engines, flying machines, magic and demons meet in one place

Choose to play as one of six warlords, all with different strengths,

Plan your attack, raise your armies and capture enemy territory in the feature-rich campaign mode,

Choose from 8 different battle scenarios in puzzle mode,

Recruit your army from a huge variety of combat units including spiders, monks, samurais and archers,

Strengthen your character as you win battles, capture territory and recruit heroes,

Fight against enemy AI in real time using many special items

With Puzzle quest on the horizon it will be interesting to see how both do. Let battle commence!

Samurai Puzzle Battle is available now for $3.99 (£2.39) there is also a free ‘lite’ version available here

I tried the Lite version, and I think game is very bad! I don’t know if it shines in scenario or in long game strategy, but few battles/quests I had, been very unpleasant. I had no fun. What I remember the most - it was very slow to play, and tutorial was bad.
    Puzzle Quest is way better.
(hope Puzzle Quest will not make this mistake)

I think Dave will be reviewing this game. He’s the puzzle quest nut! But based on your comments I don’t hold out much hope :(

    Hope Dave will trash it.
Samurai Puzzle Battle offers a lot more gameplay options, but overall game experience was sad for me.
