Rocky Artue in ‘The Devil’s Belly’

Imaginuity New Media have released their new game ‘Rocky Artue‘ on the AppStore today. The side scrolling platformer takes place in a mine and requires you to tilt your phone left to right to move along the mine kart tracks. You can pick up nuggets for power-ups which allow you to jump, gain turbo speed as well as gain extra lives.

What drew my interest was the art style, which features a hand drawn magic marker, paper cut-out feel which looks great.

Check out the screens below, as well as the full breakdown of the games bizarre story line.

original-1Rocky has been informed that his father is being held captive by the US Government for threatening their veil of secrecy in regards to important research following the ill fated UFO crash landing at Roswell.  It seems that Dr. Artue knows more than he should about the crash and the beings that were captured and he now feels compelled to tell the world about it all.  The U.S. government would have liked for Dr. Artue to reconsider his plans but he could not be convinced to change his mind.  And so, they had to take matters into their own hands.

And just like that, Dr. Artue vanished.  No one knew his whereabouts.  That wasn’t so strange for our protagonist, Rocky Artue. He had long since lost contact with his father.  After countless attempts at designing the perfect high-speed, ultra mobile, small footprint rocket ship, Dr. Artue abandoned this piece of work and began designing a more aerodynamic saucer shaped vessel.  Rocky was put away into a high security storage unit along with other useless contraptions and the remains of the deceased alien beings.  And this is where Rocky’s story starts.

original-3While the aliens appeared to be deceased, they actually retained properties of life not known here on earth.  And they were able to pass these qualities onto those that actually made contact with them.  Rocky was the only thing ever to do so.

So Rocky sprang to life a bit upset about his abandonment yet anxious to prove his worth.  His most prominent characteristics are his ability to will himself into lift off.  His amazing agility and speed are wondrous.  His flight defies the earth’s natural laws.  If you’ve ever seen footage of a UFO or heard a pilot talk about witnessing incredible movement by a vehicle in the sky, you’ll know what Rocky can do.  He can also see for miles.  Literally.  He may only have one eye but it’s remarkably powerful.  You’ll also notice a thick French accent that he inherited from his estranged father.

Our adventure begins when Rocky discovers that his father has been taken hostage by our government and is being kept in the desert at the bottom of an old abandoned gold mine called, The Devil’s Belly.  He finds the mountain and discovers an old, rickety mine cart that leads into the mountain.

We have a whole list of excuses.

First off, George W. Bush is to blame…

Second, we are changing the name due to a trademark issue. This set us back quite a bit just thinking of a new name. The new name BTW is PIXEL.

Third, we started a game idea and pulled back and are doing a different game idea. We needed a game that had more broad appeal. We will be finishing up the game this week, as well as a refresh to the PIXEL system.

Forth, we updated the existing games and improved them based on user input. Making them much better IMHO.

On a side note we have a really terrific list of games in the pipeline and are looking forward to that. We have optimized our pipeline to get games done faster as well.

We submitted each of the games for individual sale to the app store, and we are building a lite version of Pixel which will hopefully get the word out. The sales are coming, every little bit helps especially referrals. Each game we make and add to Pixel helps build the value.

Sorry IPGN for hijacking your comment system :)
