EA Mobile in conjunction with Harmonix and MTV Games are bringing Rock Band to the iPhone and iPod Touch.
It was only a matter of time before EA brought Rock Band to the iPhone, what with the Tap Tap series doing so well on the platform. No release date as yet, but we have screens and details of what will be in the game.
It sees you jamming solo or with up to 4 friends over Bluetooth, hearing when they miss notes and bailing them out with overdrive just like the console editions. Facebook connection also allows you to keep up on your band’s status and friend invites.
As with the console version you can choose from guitar, bass, drums and even vocals. Controlling the various instruments is done via tapping either the colour coded plectrums or drums at the bottom of the screen as the notes pass the note bar. Unfortunately the vocal option doesn’t see you singing into the mic and instead shares a similar experience to the American Idol game with more tapping. Graphically it certainly looks the part, except for the pre-rendered animations that appear at the top of the screen, instead of a realtime 3D rendered and animated band. But this kind of game is all about the music. It comes with 20 songs (see track list below), as well as an in-game music store that will allow you to purchase additional tracks. Expect the usual premium price tag of $9.99 as well as additional song packs for $0.99.
