At times I look to the budget alternatives when it comes to gear, and find myself quite impressed with the value for money. The Rhombus case sold by BudgetGadgets.com is really well made offering the same level of protection as that found in for example the Macally FlexFit. The Rhombus is sold at $2.01, and the FlexFit is $29.99. Packaging, and product presentation differs significantly in favour to the more expensive brands.
The Rhombus covers the entire back, sides, and offers a lip around the edges giving some protection to the front. All cut-outs are well made, and fit the iPhone perfectly. The rhomb pattern is on the inside of the case giving a cool look. It also gives the case two extra millimetres of depth/protection. The Rhombus is one of the best cases I have found yet to enhance the look of the iPhone 4. It shines, and glitters beautifully all over the back.
There are of course some shortcuts needed to make something as cheap as this, and it comes in a rather hard edge around the case. This is rather unpleasant at times, but also enhances the grip when playing games and texting. To me this at times rather uneven edge lowers the overall impression of the case. Other than that there was no other sign that this case is sold at a fraction of the cases from the well known brands.
The Rhombus is definitely recommended if you don’t want to spend too much money on your cases. You can get it in all four colours at a third of the price of the Macally FlexFit for example. I think that any company looking to make cases with printed advertising/logos should find use for the affordable cases from BudgetGadgets. It is also great if you want to make a gift bag with stuff that look good, at a low cost.
