Revolt preview

I hate hype, I really do. A hyped game seldom lives up to that hype, and I end up feeling cheated. I have seen some hype about this game I have on my iPhone at the moment: Revolt. Contacting the developer I was accepted to the roll call, and now I have nothing to do but shout: THIS IS AMAZING!!! Believe the hype, thrust it and embrace it.

Basically Revolt is a twin stick shooter, but not in the sense that we have become accustomed to for the iPhone. Revolt has more in common with games such as State of Emergency and Hunter the Reckoning for the Xbox/PS2. It plays the way I hoped that Guerrilla Bob would have played out. Instead of going for the all out killing frenzy style of twin stick shooter it goes for atmosphere, story and feeling of personal choice to the proceedings. That is of course a survival mode letting you live out your crazy kill frenzy fantasies as well.

img_0716Graphically it is already as a beta on par with the brilliant Dungeon Hunter by Gameloft. Cool explosions and lighting effects. A lot of polish remains to be done, but still the beta version is among the best looking games for the iPhone.

The story has yet to be implemented, and I can’t wait to now what war I am a part of. Between levels you get to upgrade your character by using credits dropped by killed foes. The upgrades show promise, and it is really cool to blast away with improved power.

With two modes available Revolt seems to be a real winner. No matter if you prefer the hardcore survival mode or the story mode with progressively harder enemies this will be one to look for. I can’t believe that this is created by a small indie team of three people. Darn it, now I am officially part of the hype. Keep your eyes peeled for a review when Revolt is unleashed.

    Definitely looking forward to this.

Oh yeah, and I took your advice and thrust the hype, but the hype says it’s taking me to court now.

I just noticed, “Graphically it is already as a beta on par with the brilliant Dungeon Hunter by Gameloft.”

Don’t talk about Dungeon Hunter again, Torbjorn…we all know what happened the last time! :D

:) Dungeon Hunter is a good game, and it is reflected in the score it got. Actually put it back on the iPhone a couple of days ago to see if the updates have made it even better. It is on Spring sale for a buck at the moment.
