RR2 HD update – the ipad becomes a console

Firemint release an update specifically for iPad 2 users with an HDMI adapter… with great results.

Did you buy an iPad 2. Did you also grab an HDMI adapter while you were at it? Well, finally you have something worthy of its purchase.

I’ve played a few iPad games while hooked up to a TV, but the majority have the problem that you really need to look down to the screen to see where you are touching. Racing games have less of a problem, due to the majority of controls featuring the accelerometer. Firemint have taken this a step further in their latest update to Real Racing 2 HD, by implementing dual screen functionality. This essentially turns your iPad into a steering wheel with a head-up display. The TV shows the main game view of the race, while the iPad screen shows only the essential information such as track position, timings and a plan of the track itself. Not only that but the output to TV is full 1080p , turning your iPad from just a handheld to a portable HD capable console. The only hurdle now is to make it wireless. If Apple allows support for Airplay streaming that doesn’t involve just music and video, then things could get seriously interesting.

Check out the video below of the dual screen functionality in action. And don’t forget to read our full review of Real Racing 2 here. Real Racing 2 HD is out now for $9.99. Get it on the Real Racing 2 HD - Firemint Pty Ltd

Looks pretty sweet. But Firemint could have used an iPhone as the controller like Chopper 2 does.

Anyhow, if Apple doesn’t announce something about apps on apple tv or airplay for games/apps at WWDC then I might pick up an HDMI connector if a few more apps/games start using it like this.

lol nizy. that’s sounds like overkill. connecting your iPhone to your iPad that’s connected to your tv.

@ nigel, at least it’d be a wireless controller! But yes over the top and rather expensive too.

not nearly as expensive as using 4 ipod/iphones as wireless tile racks for iPad scrabble :) (ive done this once, it was a BLAST!)
