The protection aspect of the Edge Case is a bit hit and miss. The lower half of the iPhone is extremely well protected by the large leather edges, and flap when closed. The top of the iPhone is quite naked, and especially the top corners are open to scratch and impact damage. Having the flap thinner than the iPhone might look cool as you get to see some of the sleek chrome, but it leaves too much of the iPhone open to damage. To me a case should either offer great protection, new functionality or a cool identity. The Edge Case is a mix of the three, and the screen protection is among the best you can get.
The quality of the leather is great with a soft feel to the touch. The lining is made of fuzzy suede, and attracts quite a lot of dirt. This isn’t seen when the iPhone is inserted, but is seen when it is extracted as fuzz sticks to the back of it. There is no risk that the iPhone gets loose inside the case as the friction is rather high.
A small ring at the top of the case lets you keep the iPhone on a chain. This is not included, and you have to think of a good solution yourself. To me this is a bad option altogether as the top back of the iPhone is unprotected I don’t want it swinging around my hip.
The flap is secured by a leather strip, and can dangle freely when you use the phone. The flap can also be placed completely to the back of the case. Using the iPhone when in the case gives enhanced grip. To me the width added by the quite bulky lower half of the case fits my palm perfectly. The case does not intrude on the screen estate at all, which is really good.
I would have liked to have some sort of credit card slot, and a real holster solution. The Edge Case is still a really good cool-looking case that enhances the grip. I have enjoyed using the case a lot. Actually it has been my first choice for daily use even with 30 cases to choose from. It is convenient for use at all occasions, yet fit perfectly on a posh conference table.
