Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (PES) released

Its timing could not be better, or worse, depending on your point of view. Does it try and capitalise on the release of FIFA 12 by going head-to-head in the hope that it will out-perform its rival, or will it suffer a crushing defeat against the slightly higher profile of the FIFA series.

Until we’ve had a good kick about on PES’s virtual hallowed turf, we can’t say. What we can tell you though is that the game weighs in at a very slight 100MB, compared to the bloated 1GB of FIFA 12. FIFA 12 does of course feature the high quality voice commentary that PES does not, which will definitely factor into the differences in app size. PES does hold the license to the UEFA Champions League, which will be a big lure for many football fans. And as well as being able to play full seasons and compete in cup competitions, you can play friends online via wi-fi or Bluetooth, something which FIFA 12 lacks. The game is free in bare bones form, with an in-app purchase of $5.99 unlocking the full feature set.
