I got some time to sit down and play Pocket Legends, the new “freemium” MMORPG, at GDC a few weeks ago. Not being able to talk about this game until it’s release today has been tough! As you can see by the screenshots, this is a full on 3D MMORPG, with all the stops pulled. It looks awesome, and plays just as well. Movements and animations are smooth, and there was almost zero lag when playing with one of the developers (Gary Grattis) using a crappy wifi connection in a hotel lobby. That said, you can also play this game on both 3G and EDGE! That’s right, you can play online with friends with almost no lag using any connection that’s available.

I definitely encourage you to listen to the interview above, as there are many questions and answers relating to the story, future quests, guild support, in-app purchases, etc. Let me just say from my brief time with the game, that this is by far the most “real” MMORPG I have seen on the iPhone as far as today’s standards are concerned. Here’s some official facts about the game:

- It’s FREE (in-app purchases for extra content)
- 14 replayeable “dungeons,” and ability to reach level 12 without spending a dime
- Persistent universe supports thousands of players
- Worldwide synchronized play over wireless, Edge, 3G networks
- Plays across all Apple mobile devices (2g, 3g, 3gs, touch, iPad)
- 3d Camera with full user control
- 3 classes (mage, tank, ranged) Upgradable stats and skills
- One-tap attack and skill usage Joystick or tap-to-move
- Huge variety of in-app purchases and microtransactions
- Character Customization
- Keyboard and Quick Chat Friends list
- Avatar emotes
- Thousands of loot items
- Tons of content Regular expansions

Pocket Legends should be available on the iTunes Store today (or soon) for the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad, for FREE.
