It looks like we were barking up the wrong tree with this game, as it turns out to be a Facebook game. Just like the other iOS gaming sites, we are on the Gameloft mailing list. However, it wasn’t made clear to us at the time that this would be Facebook only. It’s disappointing to be sure, and a strange move on Gameloft’s part not release it on iOS. Let us know what you think in the comments.
(originally posted March 31) Gameloft teases us with an image for the next installment of N.O.V.A, could it be running on Unreal Engine? They did announce that they were bringing four titles to the AppStore this year that utilise the Unreal Engine technology, so it makes sense that they would do so with their prize N.O.V.A series.
The graphic below is missing the 3 monicker though, so perhaps this isn’t a full sequel and instead a multi-player only title,. Something along the lines of Quake 3 Arena or Unreal Tournament? We’ll keep you posted.
UPDATE: April 17
Gameloft have released a full gameplay trailer for NOVA Elite. It looks to prove my theory that the game will be a multiplayer only spin-off game, and not a full third instalment of the series. The multiplayer element of NOVA 2 was infact the best part of the game, so taking that and focusing on refining that experience is a good thing in my book.
Those of you expecting it to take advantage of Gameloft’s recent licensing of the Unreal engine might be disappointed though, as judging by the video it looks to be utilising the same tried and tested graphics engine as before.
Expect NOVA Elite to hit your 3.5 inch screens very soon.
