With the game just around the corner, Vogster have released new screens and artwork of the game in action. We got hands-on with Robocalypse: Mobile Mayhem back at E3, you can read our account of this impressive looking RTS here. In the run up to release, which is anyday now, Vogster have supplied us with run-down of the characters of Robocalypse.
Implanted with the brain scans of WWII vets, the Heroes are the most powerful robots on the battlefield in Robocalypse – each with their own advanced weapons and special abilities. Having Heroes in battle is crucial to success in most missions, but so is picking the right heroes (with the right abilities). Let’s put our Heroes under inspection! ATTENnnnnTION!!
Joe is an Assault Hero - a powerful, elite fighter who’s great at capturing Control Points and enemy targets. Equipped with Dual Chain Guns, he also has a soft spot in his robot-heart for his human commanders – who themselves often have soft spots in their heads!
Like any good soldier, Joe can go into Rampage Mode at the drop of a hat (or the touch of an icon). Joe’s rate of fire increases, but his movement is slower. Great for storming buildings, eliminating enemy heroes, and out yelling his superior officers.
The Sarge is a Leader Hero. A commander from the cradle (his brain-scan, at least), his main weapons are special gauntlet gloves, with which he delivers his patented Head Cracker move - effectively crushing the enemy… and their head.
As a Leader, his primary ability is forming a Squad – 3 combat robots and a medic that act as a team around Sarge. If a squad member dies, his place is taken by any other available robot. His secondary ability is the War Shout, which temporarily increases the damage inflicted by the squad. Good for eliminating enemy robots, especially during attacks, and for breaking any nearby glass.
Spyder is a Scout Hero. Moving very quickly, he is great at infiltrating enemy territories. His primary weapon is the Converter Cannon, a cryogenic gun that can turn a robot into a refrigerator for a short period of time. Great for freezing those pesky medics, or for keeping your drink cold.
Spyder’s primary ability is a Stealth Mode, which makes him invisible to enemy combat robots for a short time. Great for performing valuable reconnaissance, or for sneaking in and freezing a few builders. Placing Fake Flags is his secondary ability. These look just like any Action Flags to the enemy and will distract them for a short time. Good for disorienting the enemy to stage surprise attacks. Or just to laugh at them.
An Assault Hero (just like his adopted last name says), Pyro’s first words (as well as the next 10,000) were “Fire!” Not surprisingly, his main weapon is a flamethrower, affectionately called the Melter. (That was his second word…)
Pyro’s favorite time of battle is when he goes into Siege Mode. Standing in place, his flamethrower gets a power and range boost. Perfect during sieges (obviously) and for destroying enemy buildings and robots who ask for a light.
While Viper is a Sniper Hero, he also moonlights as a scout. He moves quickly and is great at infiltrating the enemy’s base. He can also pick off robots with his long-range Sniper Rifle… for those times when you want to sit back and enjoy the damage.
Viper’s primary ability is his Detection Mode, where he becomes invisible to enemy combat robots for a short time. Just like Spyder’s ability, but with a rifle! Viper’s secondary ability is the infamous WMD. The reason they couldn’t find the WMD before – they weren’t looking in the sky! Just when your enemy thinks they’re safe, an anvil drops from above – smashing heroes and robots alike!
The General is a Leader Hero with more experience in his elegant, decorated shoulder pads than most robots have at all. His main weapon is a Chain Saw, which tears enemy robots apart limb-from-dishwasher-body-frame.
The General’s primary ability is forming a Squad – 3 combat robots (which may include heavy units) and a medic that act as a team around him. His secondary ability is the Demoralizing Shout, which temporarily decreases the ability of enemy robots to attack. Good for when you’re trying to defend territory, or if you want to send your enemy to therapy.
