Need for Speed: The Run cancelled

Late last month, EA revealed that they will be bringing their much-anticipated console title Need for Speed: The Run to iPhone and iPad.  This week, they’ve cancelled it.

They uploaded a trailer to show off what the studio had been working on, and by the looks of it, they were working hard.  This would have been a break from two years of Need for Speed Shift and SHIFT 2 Unleashed, which saw no updates in gameplay performance over the year.  As posted on their Facebook page:

EA Mobile will not be launching Need for Speed: The Run on iOS. These decisions don’t come easily, but in the end our focus on fewer, bigger, better experiences necessitated that we focus resources on another exciting new Need for Speed experience for mobile users coming soon. We’ll share more about that in the coming months.

I for one was extremely excited to get my hands on Need for Speed: The Run this year, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to get a taste of what EA has been cooking.

I find it strange that they would cancel a game that looks pretty much finished. And them saying that they want to focus on “fewer, bigger and better experiences” ist strange too: this seemed like one of their biggest and best announced games, considering how few big and good game experiences EA maks for iOS.

I’m just looking at the bright side – hopefully the next Need for Speed will be a different experience than previous NFS titles on iOS.

Much loved? The game has a 64 rating in MetaCritic and a user score of 5.6 — not to mention that it bombed commercially, never making it to the top 10 (a first for the series).

Basically, EA is cutting its losses.

    Anticipated, then. :)

In other words there going to milk Dead Space until it runs dry.

I’d rather to see EA focus on bringing another Dead Space episode on iOS, rather than one more NFS experience… “Hot Pursuit” already has all this licence needs ^^

I hope the graphics will be better than the last.

I bet they’ll release an awesome freemium version! Maybe we’ll have to pay real money for gasoline or something cool like that. The most important thing is that I can pay as much money as possible for my ios games.
