The Magnet-Force case from monCarbone introduces both a new functionality, and a superhero. As the name implies the new functionality has to do with magnets. Centred on the back of the case a strong magnet has been imbedded. The superhero is also connected to this, and this Spiderman look-alike named Fiberman demonstrates this function on the packaging.
The Magnet-Force is a back cover made from strong, durable carbon fiber. I have reviewed cases earlier for iPhone 4 and iPad from monCarbone, and was really impressed. I still am impressed that a case as strong as this can weigh only eight grams minus the magnet. At 0.6 millimetres it is also one of the thinnest available cases that still offers a good degree of protection. The case bulges slightly in the middle of the back where the magnet is located, other than that it is similar to the iPhone 4 HoverCoat.
The functionality of the magnet stands in contrast to the fact that the case can’t rest flatly on its back. The magnet sticking out makes it slightly wobbly. To me the functionality added is more than a gimmick, and I found it really useful. Sticking the iPhone 4 on the fridge with a recipe displayed works really well. Sticking it on a whiteboard is also usable, both as an actual magnet holding papers and for viewing video. The magnet works well on almost all metal surfaces as long as they are level, and still. I had an idea that I could use it on my handlebar for my bike, but as the bike bounces a lot that turned out to be less ideal.
As with all products from monCarbone the production is flawless, and there are no signs from machinery or cutting. On the inside of the case a piece of fabric protects the back of the iPhone from the magnet scratching it. The fit is perfect, and all functions are easy to reach. For protection the case provides good side and back protection. For the screen there is no protection at all, and I would have liked at least a small lip above the screen. This is the only reason the case can’t get a five star rating.
The Magnet-Force is an exciting product adding a useful feature to the iPhone. I have not had any problems with reception or battery power with a magnet on the back of the phone. Lightweight, sturdy and a classy look are all great properties of this excellent case.
