Modern Combat 2 – hands-on video

It’s a busy week this week with two big titles hitting the AppStore the same day, Modern Combat 2 and Sonic 4…

Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus is the long awaited sequel to Modern Combat: Sandstorm. And while the first game impressed with its controls and graphics, the gameplay itself fell a little short with repetitive and non-challenging AI, or lack-there-of. After playing through some of the campaign in Black Pegasus, both Matt and myself agree that the game is a definite improvement, with good pacing and a fun use of Quicktime events. The AI is more of a challenge, exhibiting AI similar to that seen in Gameloft’s other FPS, N.O.V.A. But there’s still a few instances where they’ll idly stand right in front of you, easy pickings as they re-load. Matt will have the last word on the game with his full review this week. And be sure to listen to out podcast Thursday morning where we’ll give you more impressions. In the meantime check out this oil platform level in action below.

I have a feeling that Modern Combat 2 will blow Bad Company out of the water, I can just feel it :)

Haha, I gave this to my little brother for the day and he said. “How did you get Call of Duty on the iPhone so good? I didn’t think the CD would fit in a iPhone?” After hearing this I said It wasn’t Call of Duty but a clone. He had no idea what that meant and didn’t care. After playing it for a few hours he decided to save up for an iPod Touch and once he does he’ll by N.O.V.A. 2, Modern Combat: Black Pegasus, and NFS: Hot Pursuit when it’s available (His favorite game for the Playstation).

Anyway, here are my initial impressions for the game.

    Pros

•It seems to be a longer leveled game, meaning that the levels are longer than that of the previous game.
•The graphics are amazing, even on a 3GS, yet another reason why I’m still considering a 3GS.
•Love the detail the put into cloning this, seems more like Modern Warfare 2 a lot more than I would have thought.

    Cons
•In my opinion, voice acting is ok, but still lacks depth and is not a huge improvement, although a bit better due to the more integrated conversations.

Overall, this is easily a 5.5 (Exactly a 4.90/5 because of voice acting). Cannot wait for N.O.V.A. 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2!! Bring on the FPS mayhem!!!!! :)
