Minigore Hands-On

I finally got my eager hands on a copy of Minigore today.

In case you have not heard of Minigore yet, it’s a new stylized survival shooter. The gameplay is similar to iDracula, but it certainly stands out as it’s own game. Your block-headed character seems to have gotten lost in a field where an unlimited surge of black baddies seek to kill you. Fortunately, you were carrying a machine gun with unlimited ammo.

Instead of a lot of different bad guys the equation is a little simpler. Your main enemy seems to be some kind of black Sasquatch that has a thirst for your blood. They start out small, then get progressively larger. As you shoot the larger ones, they split to a smaller size, until they are reduced to their smallest size and you wipe them out.I have also seen some of them that are on fire, they move faster and look awesome.

Whaaaaaa!

Whaaaaaa! Run Away!!!

Occasionally they will drop a green clover thing. If you collect 3 of them you will turn into a mad smelly beast that destroys everything in it’s path. It’s pretty awesome. Also every now and then the baddies will drop a crate. So far I’ve only gotten a shotgun inside. It’s more powerful than your normal shot, but your ammo is limited.

In my experience with the game Minigore is very fun. It’s art style is charming, and funny. While attacking your character will make varied comments on his situation adding a lot of fun to the game. The controls and good, and crisp, working just like they should. The animation is also very fun. It’s one of most unique, and interesting visual styles to hit the iPhone so far.

Ha ha, now you are mine.

Ha ha, now you are mine.

I would have liked to have seen a radar to see where the enemies are coming from. It’s good to have so you can decide where on the map you should head, instead I felt like I was wandering around aimlessly hoping to find some bad guys. I also really wanted it for when I turned into beast mode. Because your time in this mode is so limited you want to make the most of it, but without the radar, most of this mode is wasted in the earlier levels.

Overall I really enjoyed Minigore. If they add a radar, and make a few minor interface tweaks they will have a very fun title. I can’t wait to see whatn the final version will be like.
