The moment I saw the image of this pouch in a press release something inside me started to crave it. It is by far the most uniquely designed pouch for the iPhone 4 when it comes to material usage, and looks. Origami done with leather pieces is pure genius.
The Kenzo Leather Origami Case is in reality a full cover pouch. Made using two large pieces of leather that are sewn together along the sides it has humble beginnings. Added onto this base are triangular leather pieces that creates an uneven pattern on the front, and back. On the front there is also a triangular cutout showing the beautiful floral lining. This is a pouch where attention to detail is top notch, and the designer has lived by the proverb “more is more”. Usually good design is the opposite with less is more, but for once more works better.
To insert the iPhone 4 you have to open the top flap that seals magnetically afterwards. Once inside you have no access to any functions of the phone. No buttons, no headphone or charge socket. It is even hard to hear the ringer, but at least the vibration works well. This is perhaps not the most practical pouch out there, and I really miss a headphone cut-out. If you really need to use headphones it can be done, but it means that the flap has to stay open.
Tugging on the pull strap found on the back does extracting the phone. This opens the top flap, and the phone emerges to about a third. A really cool feature is that the pull strap has a magnetic button that latches onto the back of the pouch when the phone is inside again. This is a really cool design feature that is also highly practical, as there is no strap swaying around loosely.
For protection the Kenzo Leather Origami Case works really well, and it can even withstand a light drizzle outside. This is still not a case you buy for protection, but you get it for the exquisite design. Pulling up the iPhone 4/4S using this case makes it all feel even more perfect.
