BulkyPix releases its jazz influenced platformer this week. Mmmmmm… Smooth!
In JAZZ: Trump’s journey you play as a young Trump presented through memories of his older, and wiser self. As the title suggests it’s all about his days starting out as a jazz musician. He is in love with the beautiful Lady Coquelicot and wants to impress her by winning a jazz music contest in New Orleans. On your travels to the contest you must form a jazz band by recruiting musicians you meet along the way.
Despite it’s musical influence, Jazz is not a music game. It’s pure platformer. Run, climb, wall jump, rope swing and stop time with your magical trumpet, in gameplay mechanicsĀ reminiscent of classics like Mario, but with modern time-bending twists like Viewtiful Joe. In the world of Jazz however, the coins are replaced by musical notes and stars by old photos to collect.
Speaking of music, it has all been captured by the developer who rounded up real jazz musicians. A taste of which you can sample in the you tube clip below… careful, you may start uncontrollably clicking your fingers… in a smoking jacket!
As well as the authentic Jazz sounds of the 20′s, the art style will grab you too. Like Bumpy Road it has a unique cartoon look, that perfectly fits the era, and makes the game feel like more than just a standard platformer. The story is deeper too, it doesn’t take it’s self too seriously but at times is not afraid to take on themes of racism and how Trump, as an African American, is treated by people he meets on his journey.
We’ve had a few days with the game now, and are enjoying it so far, so look out for our review on January 19th.
