iPad Games – The VIP list (Updated)

For those lucky readers getting iPads this weekend, here’s a selection of games you should be playing. You might want forgo the chocolate eggs this Easter and save those pennies.

Asphalt 5 HD (6.99)

Up-rezzed version of the popular racing game. Don’t expect anything new other than improved graphics. If you already own the game for iPhone or iPod Touch you’ll have to by it again to see it in HD. That or you can run it in x2 resolution. Expect to pay an extra few bucks for HD goodness. Check out our review of the iPhone version here.

Call of Duty: Zombies ($14.99)

One of the best FPS’s on iPhone. Apart from better graphics, it’s hard to see how the increased screen real estate will improve the game, and if the controls will cause hand cramps. All will be revealed on the 3rd. The original iPhone review can be found here.

Command & Conquer ($12.99)

Last E3 we were all over this game. On it’s release though it didn’t quite blow our minds. The extra screen size of the iPad could improve the game a ton. be prepared to pay a stonking $14.99 for the privilage of finding out! The iPhone version is only $6.99 and our review can be found here.

Civilisation (coming soon)

Another case of re-imagining the iPhone release. The small screen of the iPhone hampered controls in this popular RTS. 2K are pricing it at $12.99… let the price wars begin!

Depict ($1.99)

We are loving this free pictionary style game on iPhone. The bigger screen will only increase Dave’s joy of drawing large cocks in more detail. Our iPhone review is here.

Flight Control ($4.99)

The hugely popular game the world over will be out on iPad on day 1. Can we expect more of the same but bigger… or will the larger real estate mean more planes to direct… coul dget crazy. Original review here.

Geometry Wars: Touch ($9.99)

What? Yep you heard right. The Xbox Live classic is coming to iPad. And includes an iPad exlusive game mode called titans. Released for $9.99 it’s bound to be a huge seller in the opening launch weekend.

GodFinger (ngmoco) coming soon

It’s said that ngmoco have been holding onto this game just for the iPad release. Just as the title suggests you play god and direct your minions with your finger. Check out details of the iPhone edition here.

Let’s Golf HD ($6.99)

My favourite golf game on the iPhone. Yes Tiger is technically better, but I had more fun with this title. Just like Gamelofts other title though, expect to pay a a $2 premium for HD. iPhone review is here

Mirror’s Edge ($12.99)

This has been on our radar for some time, and only today started cropping up in the AppStore RSS feed as an iPad game. Think of it as Canabalt but in 3D… oh and you’ll be paying $12.99 of your hard earned dollars to play it.

Modern Combat: Sandstorm HD ($6.99)

Gameloft’s answer to Modern Warfare. Will the jump to HD give us more of a console experience. It all depends on how the the controls are ported from the iPhone’s smaller real estate. If you don’t already own it on iPhone, this will set you back a reasonable $6.99. Don’t expect much from the game controlled AI in single player, but the online multiplayer is reason enough.

NOVA HD ($9.99)

Shown at the iPad unveiling. This version of the five star rated Halo clone sees not only a jump top HD, but a drag-to-select-enemies targeting control scheme not seen in the iPhone edition. This could be worthy of the upgrade. Our review of the iPhone edition can be seen here

NFL 2010 HD ($6.99)

Working out plays in American football could easily benefit from the extra screen size. Gameloft seem to be beating EA’s Madden to iPad launch… but is less highly rated from us of the two. Read our review of the iPhone original here.

Real Racing HD ($9.99)

Firemint’s 5 star racer blew us away on iPhone. Judging from the screenshots here, it looks like it will melt our nerdy hearts once more in it’s iPad update. But what will players make of tilting a heavier iPad around, particularly in public places? Read out Iphone review here.

Real Soccer 2010 HD ($6.99)

An example of how Gameloft can make better games than it tries to emulate. Real soccer for us played better than FIFA. Well at least we won’t have to see Rooney’s ugly mug in HD! The iPhone review is here.

Scrabble ($9.99)

Surely a perfect game for iPad. You can even to link your iPhone to it to hide your letter tiles from your opponent in Party Play mode. Sexy!

scrabble

Super Monkey Ball 2: Sakura Edition – SEGA – ($9.99)

I was a big fan of both releases, though SMB2 seemed limited in what it offered when compared to the original. Let’s hope the high price tag means more content. Especially when you can pick up SMB 2 for consoles in many a bargain bin for less.

TouchGrind HD ($7.99)

A case of concept over playability. But what a great concept it was. Unfortunately the restricted view of the iPhone version meant playing the game for more than a few minutes became somewhat tedious. Something that the iPad version can hopefully overcome. Read our iPhone review here.

Warpgate HD (£7.99)

Finally, we will be getting our hands on Warpgate. Freeverses highly anticipated RPG space opera. it can only be better on the iPad as you organise and deploy your ships on missions and quests.

Look out for hands-ons with many of the high profile iPad releases in the coming days as we get our iPads this weekend.
