3D comes to iPad, and this aint no april fool!…Jereme Francone and Laurence Nigay have developed a head tracking system for iPad that allows the user to see objects on screen appear in 3D.
It’s actually the complete opposite to how the Nintendo 3DS works. That system creates a 3D effect by beaming two separate images to each eye, and so moving your head actually breaks that effect. This iPad version actually requires your head to be moving to appreciate the effect, that or moving the device itself. If you keep your head and the iPad completely still, it would simply look like a regular image. Of course, while it makes for a more realistic 3D experience, with the ability to look around objects etc, developing intense 3D action games would require a lot of work from the developer to check all the angles. That said, it’s certainly impressive, and you can even see the effect for yourself in the video below.
