iOS game wins BAFTA

BAFTA held its gaming awards last night, where iOS beat out the DS and PSP to win best handheld game…

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts awarded the title of best handheld game to Chillingo and Zeptolab’s ‘Cut the Rope’. Beating ‘God of War: Ghost of Sparta’, ‘LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4′, ‘Professor Layton and the Lost Future’, ‘Sonic Colours’ and ‘Super Scribblenauts’.

“Cut the Rope has been nothing short of a phenomenon on the iOS platform and we’re delighted it’s been recognized by the British Academy,” said Chris Byatte, Co-General Manager of Chillingo.

It’s great to see a highly regarded body such as BAFTA recognise iOS as a legitimate gaming platform. Other big winners of the night saw Mass Effect 2 win best console game, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit for multiplayer, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for best gameplay.

That’s absolutely fantastic! Shows how innovative this platform is. Hopefully the win will draw even MORE aspiring innovative indie developers to iOS.

I don’t think Angry birds was eligible due to it being released in 2009. That and I personally think Cut the rope is a far better game. In fact I’ve never really thought Angry birds was all that, though I understand why people do.
