Chillingo released io this week. A side scrolling action platformer, that sees you taking on robotic minions in a quest to save your ship, the Nautilus. The game plays within a fixed, side-on, camera angle, but your character can move on a full 3D plane. This is done by what looks to be a rather small virtual d-pad, and shooting is controlled by tapping the screen in the direction you want to fire.
From the iTunes description, io seems to run to just under one hour, which is a little worrying and not a great incentive to pick it up, even at the low price of $1.99. Some iTunes reviews have surfaced from buyers stating that the on-screen controls are a little small and there doesn’t seem to be a save option.
We’ll have a review up soon, but in the meantime, check out the screens below.
