id reveal Doom Resurrection

If two FPS’s from legendary game developers id isn’t enough then news that has just surfaced of a secret project, that John Carmack himself has been working on over the past 8 months, may just wet your appetite.

Doom Resurrection is a ground up FPS for iPhone and unlike the sprite based 3D visuals of Wolfenstien and the upcoming Doom classic, this game is fully 3D and borrows assets from the luke-warmly received Doom 3. John Carmack is working with Escalation Studios’ Ian Mustaine. In an interview with MacWorld Mustaine was impressed with the iPhone platform stating that it was easier to get the visuals up and running and that it had a lot more power than people think.

The game will feature the usual Doom plotline of Demons arriving on Mars from another dimension, and it’s your job to stop them.

While we love going back to FPS roots with the id classsics, it’s good to see some time and effort being put into an original FPS for iPhone. We can’t wait. Look for more news of this game in the coming weeks and months. UPDATE: The game appears to be an on-rails shooter. So don’t expect full control over your character. First impressions of this mechanic will draw sighs, but we’ll reserve judgement on it’s release.

Hardly looks PSP quality to me… Not even DS quality… But I will reserve judgment until it ships… Also the videos I have seen hardly look 30 fps.
