iChair iPhone 4 case review

A chair for your iPhone 4? Not exactly, but one of the best slider cases available with a handy foldable stand function. iChair lets your iPhone rest in a comfortable position for watching movies.

The iChair is a two piece slider case with dual layers of protection. The interior is made from a soft high friction TPU plastic absorbing, and dispersing force. The outer layer is a hard polycarbonate that is strong enough to keep the shell protected, but still flexible to help disperse energy. When it comes to the shape, and size of the iChair it is easy to compare it to the OtterBox Commuter. When it comes to protection it is almost as good as the Commuter, and only lacks cover for the headphone and charge sockets.

iphone-front-portrait_blueAttention to detail is great, and there are no mould marks from production. All functions are available in the case. Instead of covering the volume controls, and silent button the iChair keeps them open. This might lower the protection value slightly, but on the other hand the case feels lighter and less bulky. Worth noting is that the cut-out around the volume buttons, and mute switch is great, and large allowing easy access.

Grip is excellent, and the indentations around the edges on both the front and back enhance this. The design is somewhat boxy, but these indentations break it up and gives it a fluent feel. Using the iPhone 4 in the iChair is a comfortable experience.

I am not a big fan of slider cases since most of them are too easy to slide apart. To me they generally don’t feel safe enough. To some extent this is true when it comes to the iChair as well. It glides apart without much force, and even my three year old can take the upper half off easily. The lower half that is slightly larger hugs the phone better, and is harder to remove. This saves the impression somewhat, and I am confident that at least half of the case would stay on in a fall with multiple bounces.

iphone4-back-portrait_whiteThe stand part of the iChair is what gives the name to the product. It is completely foldable into the back of the case. The case can rest flat on the back without any kind of wobble. The stand works in both portrait, and landscape mode. To me it is angled a bit too low in both perspectives. When in bed I have to prop up the stand slightly to get a better angle. The viewing angle in landscape mode is best suited for sitting at a desk. If you for example sit down to eat it is a perfect companion. My verdict is that there should have been a way to adjust the angle of the stand.

I am really impressed with the excellent production quality of the iChair. As the top slider comes with an extra in either white or blue it also gives room for personal expression. Included in the package you also get a screen film protector, and a dust cloth. If you are looking for a cool slider case that provides excellent protection, and comes with a handy stand the iChair comes highly recommended.
