HandStand iPad Case Review

I hate the built in warranty for the iPad! I’ve had to put so much effort into keeping the dang thing in my hands and away from that firm trampoline called concrete, that I haven’t had the ability to immerse myself in a great game while walking down the road in weeks. Thank god I have a HandStand case, because now, all those worries are behind me.

The first thing I have to say about the HandStand is that  were I to see it in a store, I would not consider getting it. I mean, it’s a case with a handle on the back, and who really needs that? If I’m playing a game I’m either tilting the device, or using both hands to play. If watching a movie, it’s generally propped up on something, most often the dashboard of my car while I’m driving. Boy was I mistaken.

Once I put this case on, I’ve never taken it off. There are few places I can’t go with the iPad now, due to it’s vastly increased mobility. The grip itself is very comfortable, it has a hand rest in the rear that’s shaped to your hand’s natural resting shape. There is also an elastic strap which is comfortable, stretchy, and easy to slip in and out of, when you want to. I can now use my iPad as an extension of my own hand, and if that weren’t enough, it swivels! I can be playing angry birds, and then want to bring up a picture to show my girlfriend, and no longer do I have to do that laborious process of holding the iPad, letting go with one hand, rotating it, and gripping it firmly again after. with the rotating hand grip in the back, I can spin the ipad on my hand like it’s nothing! Genius I say, Genius!

There are a few things I think could be better on this case though. For one thing, the plastic over the buttons are too rigid, and especially for the power button make it a hassle to press. I can’t just slide my finger over the button, and gently caress it to flip off the iPad, I now have to press down, and this has occasionally caused me to rotate the iPad in the process, slipping off the button and not turning it off. Another possible flaw is that due to the handgrip on the back, you can’t just set the iPad down and play on it without rotating the grip just right.

Overall, I really like this case, and it has a lot of functionality. It offers great protection, handling, and comfort all while looking great.
It comes in Black, White, or Pink, depending on your tastes, and they are currently accepting preorders for their iPad 2 version.

Thank you for such a great review. I am the creator of The Handstand for Ipad and i just wanted to give you and update. Handstand 2 version actually has carve outs for the volume and power button so the buttons are much easier to access. Shipping May 1st, 2011.
