GumDropCases Moto Skin for iPhone 4 preview

We all know it is coming this summer, and given the large success of cases for the iPhone 3G/3GS the case manufacturers are gearing up for the iPhone 4. First up is the Moto Skin from GumDropCases that is a soft silicone case with a sporty young touch. It comes in three different colours: black, blue and gray.

dscf2255Obviously I am unable to try out the case to do a proper review as I haven’t got an iPhone 4 or even a working analogue for it yet. I can only give it a squeeze, and a visual inspection to try to imagine how it would fit a phone. It is interesting to see that there isn’t any real size difference between the 3G and 4. I knew that from reading specs, but it wasn’t until I actually try to fit the 3G into the Moto Skin that this became apparent to me.

The Moto Skin covers the back, sides and edges of the screen giving an overall good protection against scratches and bumps. Cut-outs for all functions seem to be properly aligned making all buttons functional while in the case. The look is inspired by tire thread patterns from motocross. To some extent it is similar to the Speck ToughSkin, but without the stable interior.

dscf2260The most important aspect of any case is how well it fits, and for silicone cases it is also important to know how well it holds up with repeated usage. These aspects I am unable to try out, but my prediction is that it will fit it rather well. Another prediction is that I will probably think that it is quite loose around the edges, and this always bothers me when it comes to silicone cases.
I am not totally sure that the iPhone 4 will look good or cool in a tire thread case. The design of the upcoming phone is more conservative in my opinion, and thus it will be a smaller scope on suitable cases. We will have to wait a while to find it whether I am wrong or right on this.

GumDropCases has got a couple of interesting iPad cases, and a range of new iPhone 4 cases in the works. If you are looking for young and fresh designs definitely check them out.
