Modern Combat 4
Sky Gamblers: Air Supremecy
Winner: NOVA 3
Runner up: Modern Combat 4
You wouldn’t necessarily think that a touch device should be hot on action titles. But developers never fail to impress us with what they can pull off in terms of controls and graphics to immerse us in experiences that that border on console quality.
This year didn’t disappoint, and its wasn’t just 1st person shooters that had the edge, with offerings that took us to battle in the skies with both Sky Gamblers and ARC Squadron. Ultimately though, two FPS’s from Gameloft left us gasping for breath, and It’s N.O.V.A. 3 that takes the crown.
Like Stallone’s ‘The Expendables’ is to action movies, there is a nod and a wink to many of the premiere FPS’s in N.O.V.A. 3 – such as Metroid Prime, Halo 3 and Crysis. Gameloft has managed to capture elements of those games and cram them into a 5+ hour action spectacular, and all for much less than the price of a movie ticket.
