    If you have been a fan of this site for longer than a few months, or have listened to maybe 75% of our Unleashed podcast, you know that we are big fans of EDGE, by Mobigame. We were among the first to find out that the game had been pulled due to litigation from Tim Langdell over the “EDGE” copyright. We followed things closely during the next few months, and were shocked as much as the rest of the world at how many cards and tricks were being pulled to keep EDGE off the App Store. Granted, Langdell does own the right to EDGE in many forms of media and entertainment, but it’s still debatable as to whether this extends to games.

    Either way, the wait is over! Mobigame has returned EDGE to the App Store in the US and UK with the name EDGY. The game will still be called EDGE in all other regions. According to the developer, David Papazian, the new game is exactly the same as the original, but with an added “Turbo Mode” if you can beat all 46 levels from scratch. I don’t even know what this mode is, but Mobigame already has set a solid trend of cool unlockable gameplay modes with EDGE and their newest game, Cross Fingers. I’m excited to try it out for myself.

    To me, this should be a huge encouragement to small, indy developers everywhere. Mobigames has managed to overcome a huge obstacle in appropriating the trademark to EDGY, which Langdell had originally tried to annex for himself early on in the legal battle. Trademark trolls are not uncommon in this business, among others, and this is one big step in the right direction to bringing them down.

    I’ll update this post if I find out anything more. Until then, if you still haven’t experienced the awesomeness that is EDGE/EDGY, or if you want a new challenge and are a longtime fan of the original game, go pick it up!

    Update 1: I just realized that the top quote on the App Store page for EDGY is from EDGE magazine… who licensed their name from Tim Langdell himself. How awesome.

      While I would have loved for Mobigame not to have been bullied into changing the name, I think it is fantastic news that they never gave up and can finally start earning some money again for all their hard work.

      I hope I can win a copy to finally check out this game. It was already removed from the store by the time I had purchased my iPod Touch.

      The lite version is not yet available in the app store. It’ll be great if I can get a free copy, if not, I’m pretty sure I will buy it eventually. Hopefully edgy will be on apple’s lists again!

      It’s sad to see that Mobigame has had to make the changes that they’ve made. They are a terrific company and don’t deserve all the stress that Tim has caused. Absolutely no one should support any endeavor undertaken by that hack. Best of luck to the devs in the future.

      i agree with chris, $5… really… your one the iphone, if you $5 you need a demo… i only know your game looks pretty, i dont know how it plays or if ill like it… speaking of games with cubes in it… Bring “Intelligent Qube” (I.Q.) to the iphone, that was a great PSone puzzle game

      Edge Magazine had to pay Langdell a license several years back, but not anymore. They have nothing whatsoever to do with him. Incidentally, still no EDGE or EDGY in my region (Aus).

      Neither Edge nor Edgy are available in the UK app store. Last night Edge Lite was briefly available but has now been removed. What a mess

      There are other titles in the AppStore fighting for their preverbal lives thanks to Tim Langdell. ChaosEdge, a blog just about Tim Langdell and his retched trademark, talks all about them. The site can be found here: http://www.chaosedge.wordpress.com/

      @Auggy: Actually, Edge and Edge by Mobigame both had “trial” versions before Langdell had Edge and Edge by Mobigame removed from the AppStore. I suspect that Mobigame was in the act of getting the trial version of Edgy ready when the game was removed again.

      If you have doubts about the game’s worth, checkout YouTube searching for “Edge iphone” for video’s of the game in action. I purchased it when it first came out, and I was just about to purchase it again ($4.99) when it was removed.

      I want to do everything in my power to help out Mobigame get Edge back in the AppStore permanently, I have even donated some money to the cause on ChaosEdge’s website.

      Edge is an amazing game and does not deserve the hassle it has had to go through with Langdell.

      @Caiman, its in the australian app store, i used the code there and it worked fine.
