GDC: Stranded 2: Mysteries of Time Hands On

There are dinosaurs and stuff.Need I say more? ;)

The final game Glu showed us involved a mysterious island, dinosaurs, time travel, scientists, and an awesome 3D world to explore. Stranded 2: Mysteries of Time puts you on an island, where it’s up to you explore and figure out the mysteries that lie therein.

The angled top-down view works well for this type of game, which has you walking around talking to people, gathering quests, picking up/using items, etc. There are time traveling puzzles that involve performing actions in the past to see their results in the future (aka, planting a tree in the past, to see it grown future). All of these will reveal the story of the game, and how you are involved.

The game looks fantastic, with a crisp, pseudo cell-shaded 3D engine (screenshots don’t do it justice). Although we didn’t encounter any dinosaurs in the time we played, they look pretty dang cool from the video we saw. The game is definitely more than dino-hunting and planting trees though, and I’m excited to try it out when it launches in mid-April.
