We sat down with Mike Pagano from Ea Mobile to take a look at Tiger Woods and Trivial Pursuit.
I’ll start with Tiger first since I’ve already covered the main details from a previous event. To get the basics of the game click here. There really was only a couple new things in the game. First and foremost, they have added the caddy tips while you are putting. This is a staple in Tiger Woods games, and it helps you decide how exactly the green and is breaking and how to pinpoint your shot. The other thing they did is slightly tweak the shot mechanic. It still has the same general feel, all swipe based, but it’s now a lot bigger on the screen. Overall it makes a little easier to aim with some more precision which is crucial in a gold game. This next thing may have been here before and I just missed it, but one thing I noticed is that there is a certain margin for error in the game. If you don’t swipe straight back and forward the ball will slice to the left or right. Overall, Tiger Woods is coming along nicely, and I look forward to seeing it in the next couple months when it launches.
The next game we saw was Trivial Pursuit. It has the standard Trivial Pursuit mode, just like the real board game, but they also added “Pursuit Mode.” This is a brand new take on the game. The objective here is move your piece from point A to point B, rather then collecting all the different color pieces. It’s a really cool mode that can be played multiplayer, which then becomes a race to the finish. In regards to multiplayer, there will be online as well as pass the phone multiplayer. Both classic and Pursuit mode will be available for multiplayer. EA has also implemented a fairly innovative dice method. Instead of having to actually shake your phone around like dice, you actually swipe your finger across the dice and tap it to stop it from rolling. I found this to be a solid take on rolling dice, because if you are on the bus or train, do you really want to deal with shaking your phone around like a madman.
The next question on every one’s mind is how long until the game gets old? Will I run out of questions? Well, according to Mike there will be “thousands” of questions in the game at launch, and they are looking into selling question packs after the OS 3.0 comes out.
Both games look good, Trivial Pursuit will be launching very soon (Mike said they are “almost gold”), with Tiger to follow in the coming months.
