Gameloft has secured rights to publish Sherlock Holmes games, based on the upcoming Guy Ritchie helmed-tale of the famous detective.

Played by Robert Downey Junior, the film adds an action spin to the Holmes ethos, with the detective taking on a more rough and ready edge, including pugilistic antics.

“Sherlock Holmes is a household name spanning multiple countries and languages. To have this story updated as a modern action film by such premier talent will make the story of Sherlock Holmes more relevant than ever,” said Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president of Worldwide Publishing, Gameloft.  “We are confident our powerhouse development team will capture the spirit of the film for fans and gamers alike.”

There’s no word yet on an iPhone release. But with recent news of Gameloft’s Q1 earnings being up 22%, due in part tot he success of the iPhone, it makes sense to bring the game out on the platform.

Personally, I’m looking forward to any game that flexes both my brain as well as my brawn! Keep it locked to iPhone Games Network for further developments.
