We met with Ubisoft and GREE yesterday, where they revealed a partnership to create a new Assassin’s Creed game for iOS…
Details where scarce – I was met with many answers of “we can’t talk about that yet” – but what I can tell you is that the game will be called Assassin’s Creed Utopia, and that it will take place in the 16th Century (pre AC3) during the colonisation of what is now the United States of America. Obviously Abstergo Industries are interested in that time period and use the animus tech to find out more.
Again, details on the gameplay itself were not revealed, but like all Assassin’s games it will feature a strong narrative. What we were told is that it won’t be a card game (which many of GREE’s titles on show at E3 were). It’s being developed internally at Ubisoft and under the watchful eye of the Assassin’s Creed brand team – to ensure quality and continuity to other games in the series – so the key message from the meeting is that this will be a quality product that will appeal to AC fans.
Using the GREE platform will allow the game to connect to potentially 230 million users on the GREE network, and will harness the core APIs from the acquisition of OpenFeint for social/multiplayer features in the game.
We’ll have more on this in the coming months as Ubisoft reveal more to us.
