E3: Sonic SEGA All-Stars Racing [Video]

We get hands-on with SEGA’s latest build of their kart racer, which has come along from what we saw at GDC…

Matt got hands-on with an early build of the game at GDC this year (you can read his impressions here). This new build had improved graphics which flew past at 60 frames second, as well as offering up universal support for all iOS devices. We played it on the iPad 2 and it ran great. New to this almost final build were more characters and courses from the best of SEGA’s game franchises. I geeked out to see mascots from the likes of Shenmue, Jet Set Radio Future, Choo Choo Rocket, Crazy Taxi and Samba De Amigo. There are courses that represent these classic games too, each with their own individual stylings.

With it’s sheer amount of content, including local and online multi-player support, plus a mario kart style battle mode, Sonic SEGA All-Stars Racing is shaping up to be the karting game to beat on the AppStore… Look out Crash Bandicoot! Sonic is coming to get you!

Check out the video footage of the game in action below:

    Yes for online!

    This looks great. Can’t wait.

Can you really confirm online multiplayer? On another video a girl presenting the game talked about online multiplayer, too, but I guess OpenFeint & Game Center are merely for achievements and leaderboards. Moreover some months ago I believe I’ve heard that multiplayer will only be local.
Another question: is this a port of the Wii or DS version (done by Sumo Digital), or a special version designed for iOS?

    Thanks for replies.

Okay, there is online multiplayer! :-)
Nice game, by the way. A must-have for every fun racer fan.
