At our hands-on today with Namco we also got to play a puzzle RPG called Knightfall. Created by Megadev, and partnering with Namco, you play as either a Knight or a Princess in the third in the series of this popular online game.
It’s a strange hybrid of Match, Mr Driller and Puzzle Quest. The object of the game is to enter quests in which you must exit the level by drilling down through blocks of various elements (fire, wood, stone etc), while battling monsters and picking up collectables. You can only drill downwards, but the play area can be rotated with a tap of the screen. You have a limited amount of action points to clear your path to both the key and then the exit, so you must strategically work out the route that will use the less action points. For example, rock and fire require more points, whereas wood is weaker and so costs less.
Monsters will take your action points should you come into contact with them, but you can drill into them too. The game has an overworld map where you can enter taverns to rest and gain health, engage in banter with the bar man, as well as get hold of various powerups to aid your quests. There are over 50 levels to play through as well as different quests per level. Namco describe the game as casual to play, but hard to master.
Look for the game to hit the AppStore in a few weeks.
We’ll have screens later.
